Primary Phase


 curriculumPupils in Year 1 to Year 6 are taught in line with National Curriculum objectives. They are taught the ‘core’ subjects of English, Numeracy and Science. The ‘Foundation’ subjects of History, Geography, Music, Art, Design and Technology, Information and Communication Technology and Physical Education are taught through the International Primary Curriculum (IPC). The IPC focuses on a combination of academic, personal, and international learning for children combined with innovative, exciting, engaging and ‘real’ ways of learning.

The curriculum is planned to both motivate and challenge all pupils. We ensure that pupils become confident and competent users of the English language, which is fundamental in helping them to be successful in achieving high standards in all areas of the curriculum.

In the Early Years pupils pursue the seven areas of learning, namely the three prime areas,

  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Physical Development
  • Communication and Language.

Further support to strengthen the prime areas is provided specifically through,

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design.

After School Club Provision

In addition to the main curriculum, we also offer pupils the opportunity to take part in a wide range of extra-curricular activities outside normal school hours. These clubs help to broaden pupils experiences, are fun and some specifically support academic learning. Clubs include; Tag rugby, Bhangra, Needlework, Knex construction, Gardening club, Film club, Jewellery making, Football and many other clubs.

Community Cohesion

As an academy we actively promote Community Cohesion. Within the academy we encourage all our pupils, staff, governors and parents to share a common vision and experience a sense of belonging. We work closely with Guru Nanak Sikh Secondary Academy and other local schools to enable our pupils to work alongside people from other faiths and cultures and link with schools in India and Africa, to add an international dimension to our school. We aim to equip pupils to ultimately live and thrive alongside people from different backgrounds. We actively promote opportunities for interaction between young people from different backgrounds.
